Two police officers and some other four civilians are in the grips of the Half Assini District Police command for allegedly stealing electrical gadgets from the ‘heritage’ Osagyefo Barge at Efasu in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region. The two, according to the Half Assini District Police Commander DSP Zenge were officers deployed to protect the facility but ended up illegally trading some equipment for personal gains.
Speaking to ourstorisonline.com, the Half Assini District Police Commander DSP Zenge explained that “about three weeks ago, two Marine Police officers from the Aiyinase Marine Police Unit stationed at the Osagyefo Badge, located at Efasu; Constable Peter Zator and Constable Ibrahim Mohammed, were arrested by the Half Assini District Police Command upon a tip-off. They were arrested for stealing electrical gadgets such as air conditioners, fridges and some pylon cables at the facility. They have been processed and handed over to the Western Regional Criminal Investigations Department at Sekondi. So as we speak, the two have been charged with stealing and has subsequently been interdicted”
Before their arrest
Some community members of Efasu who has knowledge of the items at the facility, according to the Jomoro Municipal Chief Executive, Ernest Kwofie have been reporting to his outfit items that have been conspicuously missing. “So I began asking the police. [But] when you ask them, they say they don’t know. Meanwhile, every single day, these community members come and show me something [that] this room used to have four generators, and that one had 7 generators the last time we checked. [But] they are now left with three. If you ask the police, they say they don’t know. This room had a padlock, but it’s now broken. If you ask the police they say they don’t know”.
Surveillance on the defunct barge was eventually increased. “So about three weeks ago, this police who were supposed to protect the facility went and brought a car to park some items out. So the community members quickly informed me and the Half Assini police. Together they said they were laying an ambush. Truly they saw two police officers aided by four civilians parking into a car, fridges, mattresses, and everything they could pick. They got them arrested and sent to the regional CID” Mr Kwofie narrated!
